If your business needs include real-time GPS tracking, accurate mileage logs, reliable offline tracking, flexible breaks, and electronic signatures, Timeero is probably the best choice for your business.
If your priority is simple time tracking with batch crew punches and basic job quoting, ClockShark will more than likely meet your needs.
ClockShark vs. Timeero comparison: Key features overview
Although ClockShark and Timeero are both time tracking apps, their features and functions vary. In this section, I’ll compare the main features of each app, detailing their main differences.
Since time tracking is the core feature for both software solutions, let’s begin our review there.
1. Time tracking
Timeero vs. ClockShark – Key Differences in Time Tracking
ClockShark offers handy add-ons, such as CrewClock (for batch clock-ins) and Clock Out Questions (for gathering shift-end information).
Timeero allows you to edit time cards while employees are still clocked in, minimizing workflow interruptions.
Timeero supports custom break creation (paid/unpaid) and includes a California Break Tracker to meet strict labor law requirements.
Timeero provides Custom Fields to capture job-specific details like project notes, materials used, or client instructions.
Timeero allows users to append digital signatures to verify timesheets and collect client approvals on completed jobs.
How are they the same?
Both apps offer users similar time clock and time tracking options. ClockShark and Timeero can be used on iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as Window and Mac desktops, via their respective cloud-based web apps.
Besides clocking in and out, both apps record an employee's GPS location when they clock in or out, or go on break.
ClockShark’s GPS Clock
Timeero’s Time Clock
Both Timeero and ClockShark offer Kiosk apps that allow employees to clock in and out from an iPad device. Facial recognition technology is used by both software systems as a way to prevent buddy punching and reduce instances of time theft.
These mobile applications offer similar options - besides clocking in and out, you can add a note or photo to your time entry via the time clock, as well as start or end a break. Both apps can track time, location, and mileage while offline so your records are complete and accurate.
Noticeable differences in time tracking
ClockShark
ClockShark Crew Clock
ClockShark offers CrewClock, a feature that is useful when teams are in a hurry. With this feature, the manager can clock their entire crew in or out at one time, or send them to break.
If you want employees to leave notes and feedback about their shift, ClockShark allows you to create Clock Out questions for your employees to answer.
Timeero
Get the data you need with ease, using your timesheets.
Timeero offers strong customization options to fit different business needs. Its Custom Fields feature allows you to create customized forms to collect the information you need such as project details, job costs, or safety checklists.
Digital Signatures
It also supports digital signatures so employees can verify their timesheets, and clients can sign-off on job completion directly through the app.
What Timeero does differently
1. Editing timesheets mid-shift
There is one main difference between Timeero and ClockShark regarding timesheet management that can complicate the work of managers and supervisors: editing timesheets while the employee is on the clock is not possible with ClockShark.
If an employee forgets to clock in for their shift and then clocks in later during the day, the manager will need to make a mental note to manually adjust the employee’s timesheet at the end of the day.
It may not seem like that big of a deal, but it’s really easy to forget to go back and edit employees’ timesheets at the end of a long hard day.
However, Timeero does allow you to make changes to timesheets while employees are on the clock without disturbing your workflow.
2. Customized breaks
While both tracking systems support tracking employee breaks, Timeero offers more options for customization and compliance. Users can create custom breaks and specify whether they are paid or unpaid.
ClockShark only allows users to create one standard break with a single duration.
Customized breaks are a must-have in states with strict legislation like California, which is why Timeero developed the California Breaks Tracker to help your business stay compliant.
Timeero allows you to create custom breaks and includes a specialized California Break Tracker.
2. GPS Tracking
Since Timeero and ClockShark both have GPS tracking capabilities, I decided to test GPS tracking of both apps simultaneously to note their similarities and differences.
How are ClockShark and Timeero the same?
Beyond tracking historical routes, both apps offer real-time dashboards to monitor active workers during the day. You can view their whereabouts, the time they’ve clocked in, and the job or task they are currently clocked into.

Timeero: Who’s Working
Noticeable differences in GPS tracking
** Note: For this section, I’ll present the data collected when I used both apps simultaneously to track my driving route to give us a better understanding of key differences. Graphics also display my test account name rather than my own, but I did indeed complete the driving route.
ClockShark
At first glance, everything seems fine - there is a clock-in and clock-out location on the map, and it shows that I’ve moved and changed locations during the testing.
Except, when I took a second look, this was not my route. It seems that ClockShark filled the gaps between my clock-in and clock-out locations and suggested the shortest route to present.
As far as GPS breadcrumbs are concerned, ClockShark captures GPS points several times an hour, logging locations approximately every 15 minutes.
ClockShark GPSTrak Route
Timeero
Timeero accurately tracked my entire driving route.
Thanks to its higher GPS ping frequency, I could choose individual breadcrumbs dropped along my driving route to see my exact location at any point in time along with GPS timestamps and driving speed.
According to Timeero’s breadcrumb technology and timesheet records, I traveled 0.85 miles while driving.
Timeero Route Review: GPS Breadcrumb Path
My timesheet reflects actual mileage
When it comes to GPS tracking, I noted a significant difference between Timeero and ClockShark, which could be crucial for businesses that want to improve attendance and accountability among their workforce.
At the time of my testing, ClockShark did not entirely represent the situation in the field: it just gave glimpses.
3. Geofencing Technology
ClockShark's Geofencing settings
Both apps allow you to create virtual job site boundaries and send clock-in/out reminders when employees enter or leave.
However, there’s an important difference:
ClockShark will alert you if an employee clocks in outside the geofence, but still allows employees to clock in.
Timeero restricts clock-ins unless the employee is physically inside the geofenced area. Plus, it allows you to set customized, polygonal geofences.
For companies that want to crack down on attendance and compliance, Timeero’s geofencing technology offers users a clear advantage.
Timeero isn’t just for construction, field service, and property management teams alike. It’s also built with healthcare compliance in mind.
The platform is HIPAA compliant and supports Electronic Visit Verification (EVV), making it a strong choice for home healthcare agencies and personal care providers.
With Timeero, you can securely track caregiver visits, patient interactions, and employee movements while staying compliant with state and federal EVV mandates — all from a single, easy-to-use app.
4. Segmented Tracking
Segmented tracking is a feature unique to Timeero, offering a data overview you won’t get anywhere else.
This feature displays all the locations and jobs your employee visited during the day, including the time spent at each location, as well as the total time and distance traveled.
Timeero's Segmented Tracking feature
All this, with a hands-off approach: a single clock-in and clock-out in the app grants you a complete overview of your employee’s day at a glance.
Segmented Tracking is a game-changer for industries such as construction, field services, property management, home healthcare, and delivery, where keeping tabs on multi-site movements is key to boosting accountability, improving efficiency, and cutting unnecessary travel costs.
5. Mileage tracking
ClockShark does not track mileage, so this is a great feature that only Timeero provides.
Mileage tracking is crucial for businesses with field employees who travel from one location to another that use company or personal vehicles to make trips.
With Timeero’s drive detection technology, mileage is automatically recorded when a driver’s speed reaches the predefined speed threshold (usually 4.7 mph).
For employees that drive into work each day, your company has the ability to define a commute mileage threshold. Timeero will automatically deduct commute mileage from your drivers’ daily mileage total, so only true business miles are logged.
Timeero suggests the shortest route to your destination
When an employee’s scheduled job includes address details, Timeero can suggest the shortest route to the destination, increasing productivity and reducing travel expenses.
6. Employee Scheduling and PTO Management
Scheduling shifts is one of the more routine yet critical tasks for businesses managing mobile teams. Both Timeero and ClockShark make this process relatively straightforward.
How are ClockShark and Timeero the same?
In both apps, you can create one-time or repeating shifts, assign them to single or multiple employees, and use drag-and-drop to quickly reschedule when plans change. You can also color-code jobs in the schedule for better visual organization, making it easier to spot who's working at a glance.
Both ClockShark and Timeero allow you to create clock-in and clock-out reminders linked to shift times, helping employees stay on track without micromanaging.
PTO visibility isbuilt into both platforms, helping prevent overscheduling and assigning jobs to employees who are unavailable.
Noticeable differences in scheduling
ClockShark
Scheduling in ClockShark
With ClockShark, you must manually choose to send out notifications every time you update the schedule. If you skip part of the process, employees won’t know their schedule has changed unless they happen to open their schedule in the app.
Timeero
Scheduling with Timeero feels more automated and collaborative. Employees are notified as soon as shifts are published and can accept or decline them, reducing back-and-forth and helping managers stay in control without micromanaging.
Employees can add or decline shifts.
Employees have the ability to accept, decline, or cherry-pick shifts, which is great for businesses that manage fluctuating crews and part-time workers, or need to accommodate last-minute changes.
Key takeaways
Timeero streamlines time-off approvals and scheduling, while ClockShark allows you to create detailed time-off policies, set accrual rules, and track individual employee balances.
7. Reporting
Both Timeero and ClockShark offer a wide range of reporting options. However, each platform puts a slightly different focus on what you can track and export.
ClockShark’s reporting
In ClockShark, you can generate Quick Summary reports that give you a breakdown of labor by employee, customer, job, or task, including Regular Time, Overtime, and Double Time hours.
If you need more detailed reports, ClockShark also lets you pull:
Job and Task reports with clock-in/out and break times
Employee reports showing daily and weekly totals
Quotes and Invoice reports tracking total amounts and values
Financial reports for taxes, payments, overdue invoices, and labor costs
Timesheet reports with time-off requests, clock-out questions, and alerts
For companies that need to manage quoting, invoicing, and financial reporting directly inside their time tracking platform, ClockShark’s reporting suite covers a lot of ground.
Timeero’s reporting
Timeero’s reporting options are designed to give businesses much deeper visibility into employee movement, mileage, break compliance, and actual labor costs.
Besides standard timesheets available through the Time & Mileage menu, Timeero allows you to generate:
Reports by user, job, task, or custom date range
Mileage reports, including total miles traveled and associated costs
Break reports, showing break lengths, types, and compliance with labor laws
Daily Sign-Off and Premium Pay reports for California break compliance
Schedule vs. Hours Worked reports
Daily Flat Rate labor cost reports
Segmented Tracking reports, showing work and travel time across multiple locations
Custom Fields reports and full GPS data exports
If your operations involve managing mileage reimbursement, break compliance, multiple work sites, or you need to customize the type of data you collect from your teams, Timeero’s reporting is a step ahead.
Key Takeaways
ClockShark is stronger for businesses that need quoting, invoicing, and financial tracking capabilities built into their time-tracking tool.
Timeero provides more advanced reporting features, including mileage tracking, Segmented Tracking, custom data fields, EVV, and break compliance, making it a better fit for companies wanting a closer look at operational insights.
8. Quotes, Invoices, and CRM
Unlike Timeero, ClockShark allows you to create quotes and invoices directly from the app, discuss them with your coworkers, and email them to customers.
ClockShark offers basic CRM functionality, allowing you to store customer data and all related information in a centralized location. Timeero provides similar functionality.
Key Takeaways
ClockShark lets you create invoices and quotes in-app, while Timeero allows you to generate custom reports to get the data you need for invoicing.
9. Software integrations
Both Timeero and ClockShark offer integrations with popular payroll, accounting, and business apps to help streamline your workflows.
ClockShark Integrations
ClockShark connects with a range of platforms, including:
QuickBooks Online and Desktop
ADP RUN, Workforce Now®, and Workforce Now® Next Generation
Xero (Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom)
Sage 100 Contractor
Gusto
MYOB AccountRight
Paychex (via CSV export)
Simpro
Zapier
However, ClockShark has two important limitations: You can only have one integration active at a time, and there is no open API to build custom connections.
Timeero Integrations
Timeero offers even broader integration options, including:
QuickBooks Online and Desktop
Gusto
Xero
Rippling
Paychex (API and CSV options)
ADP Workforce Now®
RUN Powered by ADP
Viventium
Paylocity
Sandata
Pimsy
Zapier
Unlike ClockShark, Timeero supports an open API, allowing businesses to build custom integrations as needed. Plus, it lets you run multiple integrations at the same time, which is good because no one likes to keep opening and closing apps to complete a single process.
ClockShark vs. Timeero: User Reviews
Both Timeero and ClockShark have high rankings for ease of use, reliability, and customer support.
ClockShark has an average rating of 4.6 to 4.7 out of 5 across major review sites. The app is usually described as very user-friendly, with standout GPS tracking and scheduling features. Many users appreciate how easy it makes managing field crews and handling daily operations. A few reviewers note that making edits to things like job codes or PTO can take extra steps, but overall satisfaction with the platform remains strong.
Timeero holds an average rating between 4.4 and 4.8 out of 5 on Capterra and G2. Users often praise its intuitive design, quick setup, and responsive support team. Some mention occasional syncing issues or suggest that having more built-in payroll features would be helpful, but overall, most agree that Timeero is a reliable choice for managing field teams and mobile workforces.
Pricing Overview
Let's move on to another question that is probably on top of your mind - what can you get out of these two, and at what price?
Timeero’s pricing
Timeero’s pricing is straightforward, with no monthly base fees. Only the monthly costs per user apply.
There are four pricing packages:
Basic: $4/mo per user
Pro: $8/mo per user
Premium: $11/mo per user
Enterprise: For organizations with over 250 users, contact the sales team for a customized plan.
Timeero’s Segmented Tracking is available as an optional add-on for Pro and Premium plan users, starting at $5 per user each month.
ClockShark’s pricing
ClockShark’s pricing is a bit more complex. The price consists of the monthly base fee for one admin and the monthly costs per user. This type of pricing is not ideal for small businesses, as they are required to pay the same flat base fee regardless of the number of users.
ClockShark offers two pricing packages, Standard and Pro.
Standard: $40 monthly fee + $9/mo per user
Pro: $60 monthly base fee + $11/mo per user
Do the apps offer users a free trial?
