How Multi-Level Approvals Work in Timeero:
Timesheets Both Sides Sign Off On

Interactive demo. Click through to see an employee sign their hours and a manager sign to approve them.

A signed record of every timesheet, from both sides

When an employee disputes their hours, it's usually on you to prove what they worked. A manager's approval alone doesn't show the employee agreed. With Multi-Level Approvals, employees review and sign their timesheets, then a manager or admin signs to approve them, so you have a record both sides signed.

✍️ How Multi-Level Approvals works

  1. Admin: Set the approval rules In Company Settings → Approval Settings, decide whether employees submit their time, whether managers can approve it, and whether signatures are required.
  2. Admin: Add your own sign-off questions (optional) Under Custom Fields → Approvals, add questions like "Any injuries or incidents to report?", make them required, and choose who answers them.
  3. Employee: Review, sign, and submit In the mobile app, employees select the entries they're ready to send, sign, answer any questions, and submit them for approval.
  4. Manager or admin: Review, sign, and approve On the web, a manager or admin opens Entry Approvals, sees who has submitted, selects the entries, signs, and approves. They can also approve in the mobile app.
  5. The approved timesheet has everything in one place Both signatures, any answers, and a time-stamped approval log. If something needs fixing, the entry can be unlocked with a reason.
Important: Multi-Level Approvals is available on the Timeero Premium plan.
Someone forgot to submit? Managers and admins can still approve their entries, so payroll isn't held up. Those entries are clearly marked as overridden.

Frequently asked questions

Which plan includes Multi-Level Approvals?
It's available on the Timeero Premium plan.
What if an employee forgets to submit?
Managers and admins can still approve their entries, so payroll isn't held up. Those entries are marked as overridden, so it's clear the employee didn't submit them.
Do signatures have to be required?
No. Admins choose whether signatures are required, whether employees submit their entries, and whether managers can approve them.
Can I collect more than a signature?
Yes. You can add your own questions to the approval step, such as "Any injuries or incidents to report?", make them required, and choose which roles answer them. The answers are saved on the approved timesheet.
What if a mistake is found after approval?
Approved entries are locked. They can be unlocked with a reason, which sends them back to Pending so they can be edited and approved again. The unlock is recorded in the approval log.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Employees submit and sign in the mobile app, and managers can approve there too. Signatures, answers, and the full approval history are viewed on the web.
