Connect ChatGPT to your Timeero data from your browser

Connect your Timeero account to ChatGPT once, and you can ask about hours, mileage, and jobs in plain language. This demo shows ChatGPT in your web browser. Setup uses developer mode in ChatGPT and your Timeero Public API key.

🤖 How to connect Timeero to ChatGPT (web)

  1. 1
    Get your Public API key
In Timeero, open Integrations → Public API → Configuration and copy your Public API key. Keep it private, like a password.
  2. 2
Make sure developer mode is on
In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Plugins. If developer mode is off, select Developer mode and turn it on.
  3. 3
    Add a custom MCP server
In Plugins, click Browse directory. Click Add, then choose Add custom MCP server.
  4. 4
    Enter the connection details
Name it Timeero, set the connection to Server URL, and set the URL to https://mcp.timeero.com/mcp. Set Authentication to OAuth, check "I understand and want to continue," and click Create as a plugin.
  5. 5
    Connect your Timeero account
Click Connect Timeero. On the Timeero screen that opens, paste your Public API key and click Connect.
  6. 6
    Choose what ChatGPT can do
On the Timeero authorize screen, decide whether ChatGPT may write and delete your data. ChatGPT always has read access. Leave write and delete unchecked to get answers without changing anything in Timeero.
  7. 7
    Allow access and start asking
Click Allow access. Open a new chat, add Timeero to your message, and ask your first question, like "How many hours did my team work last week?"
⚠️ Important: the MCP connector is available on the Timeero Premium plan, which includes the Public API used to connect. ChatGPT requires a paid plan (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu). On workspace plans, an admin may need to allow custom MCP servers first.
💡 Want answers only? Leave write and delete unchecked on the authorize screen. ChatGPT keeps read access and can pull data without changing anything in Timeero.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI tools can connect to Timeero?
Timeero connects to ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible AI assistants through the Timeero MCP server.
What do I need to connect Timeero to ChatGPT in my browser?
You need a Timeero account on the Premium plan, your Public API key from Integrations, Public API, Configuration, and a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu) with developer mode turned on. On ChatGPT workspace plans, an admin may need to allow custom MCP servers first.
Is the web setup different from the ChatGPT desktop app?
Yes. In ChatGPT on the web, you turn on developer mode, then add a custom MCP server from the Plugins directory with a Server URL and OAuth authentication. The ChatGPT desktop app uses a different flow, where you add an MCP server and set the type to Streamable HTTP. Both use the same Timeero MCP URL and your Timeero Public API key. See the ChatGPT desktop demo for the desktop steps.
Can ChatGPT change my data in Timeero?
Only if you allow it. ChatGPT always has read access to Timeero once connected. Write and delete access are optional and apply only if you enable them on the Timeero authorize screen when you connect. Leave both unchecked for answers without changes.
What can I ask ChatGPT once Timeero is connected?
You can ask about your team's hours, mileage, and jobs in plain language. Example prompts include "How many hours did my team work last week?", "Who is clocked in right now?", and "List my jobs." If you allowed write access, confirm any changes ChatGPT asks you to approve.
