TL;DR

  • Econz Wireless is a construction-focused GPS time tracking app with strong payroll and California compliance features, priced at $50/month plus $8 per employee and a 500–15,000+ implementation fee.
  • Automatic clock-in/out, live GPS tracking, offline data collection, mileage logging, and California break compliance.
  • No automatic mileage reimbursement calculations, limited visibility into active geofences, and reported usability and customer support concerns.
  • Customers report a clunky, outdated interface and limited support, which is the top reason field teams switch to easier tools like Timeero.

‍

‍

Field teams work in remote locations with little or no cell service and travel across multiple work sites per day. Their work conditions are unique, and because of that they need a GPS time tracking app that is built to work the way they work. Not only should the app you choose depend on your company’s needs, but it should make time tracking easier for your workforce.

‍

If Econz Wireless is one of your time tracking options, we have researched the app and compiled our findings in this review.

‍

We evaluated the features that field teams need most:

  • Auto Clock-In/Out
  • GPS visibility
  • Mileage tracking
  • Geofencing
  • Offline tracking
  • California compliance
  • Payroll & reporting

‍What is Econz Wireless?

‍

Econz Wireless was established in 1971 and is headquartered in New Port Beach, California. The company began by offering computerized dispatch and telemetry systems to customers.

‍

Since then, Econz Wireless has launched multiple mobile time tracking solutions featuring GPS tracking and geofencing for field teams. They primarily serve the construction industry focusing on prevailing wage, union dues, and multi-state payroll compliance.

‍

Who is Econz Wireless best for?

‍

Econz Wireless is best suited to construction businesses that need mobile time tracking alongside payroll and labor compliance tools. Its solutions support time tracking, GPS visibility, geofencing, reporting, and facial recognition.

‍

Econz may be worth considering if your business prioritizes payroll compliance and construction-specific reporting. However, teams managing multiple nearby job sites should carefully evaluate its geofencing capabilities and overall ease of use before committing.

Econz pricing

‍

Econz Wireless uses a combination of monthly subscription fees and implementation costs.

‍

Pricing component Cost
Monthly base fee $50/month
Per-employee fee $8/employee/month
Implementation fee $500-$15,000+
Discounting Flexible (upon request)

‍

The implementation fee is an important consideration when comparing Econz with other time tracking platforms. Your total cost will depend on team size, onboarding requirements, and any negotiated discounts. Ask for a complete quote that includes implementation, recurring subscription fees, and any additional charges before signing a contract.

Which Econz Wireless options should you choose?

‍

Econz Wireless offers four mobile time tracking solutions:

  • Timecard GPS: comprehensive workforce management solution, includes daily job journal forms
  • Timecard GPS Lite: entry-level workforce management solution for time tracking
  • Timecard Checker: mobile devices are turned into virtual time clocks
  • Timecard Supervisor: gain access to employees’ locations and current job activities

First impression of Econz Wireless

‍

For this review, I wanted to be able to test the app myself, but I heard nothing back from the team when I reached out for a free trial.

‍

The website lists two different addresses as point of contact, and the monthly base fee announcement was posted in 2025. The website appears to be outdated on some pages, and presents large chunks of information that are hard to visually navigate through (product pages).

‍

Although I wasn’t able to conduct a hands-on test, after reading through reviews, customers feel the mobile interface is archaic and clunky, but praise it for its payroll and compliance features.

Key Econz Wireless features

‍

Automatic clock-in and out

‍

Econz Wireless does support automatic clock-in and out when crews enter or exit a geofenced site.

‍

At times GPS accuracy may drift due to satellite signal, so geofence boundaries may need to be drawn slightly larger around work zones to offset the margin of error.

‍

Drawing a larger geofence around a job site may allow crews to clock in before they actually reach the job site, which means you could end up paying for work never performed.

‍

GPS visibility

‍

The app’s live map feature allows managers to view real-time employee locations, filter users by status (working, clocked out, lunch), color-code teams, and place team members in multiple groups while restricting groups to a single team.

Mileage tracking

‍

Econz accurately records mileage and allows managers to monitor mileage, driving speed, and receive speed limit alerts. Real-time tracking can be viewed on Google Maps by dragging and dropping a pin, which shows the employee’s location, geofence alerts, and speed.

‍

However, the app does not currently have the ability to automatically calculate mileage reimbursement totals.

‍

Geofencing

‍

Econz geofences are called “smart fences”. Users can draw custom (polygon) geofences and radius (circular) geofences, with radius precision down to one tenth of a mile. However, there is no way to see all of the active geofences, so overlapping may occur. This means that when field teams pass by a nearby work zone, they may be automatically clocked in, or switched out of a task without warning. Currently there is no tool in place to prevent overlapping events from occurring.

‍

Offline tracking

‍

When crews are working in remote locations without internet connection, Econz continues tracking all time, mileage, and GPS data on the worker’s phone, and downloads everything to the app once a connection is restored. Any auto clock-ins that would have been recorded with a connection are also uploaded once the internet is restored.

California compliance

‍

Econz does give great attention to California’s strict meal and rest break laws. The app includes California meal premium laws, allowing employers to set up break alerts and automate payroll notifications or extra-hour penalty pay when breaks are missed.

Why do field teams choose Timeero?

‍

Field teams looking for an easy-to-use mobile time tracking app appreciate simple workflows and straightforward design. The number one reason customers leave Econz is due to excessive clicks needed to complete actions and an outdated interface.

‍

Timeero is a GPS time tracking and workforce management platform for field teams. Its mobile app design is intuitive, user-friendly, and can be navigated by even the less tech-savvy. While Timeero also offers users the ability to draw circular and polygon geofences, the app shows all geofences a company has drawn around their job sites, which eliminates overlapping.

‍

Larger field teams using Econz Wireless had a harder time navigating the app and receiving help due to the company’s limited support team. Timeero is built to scale with your company as it grows, serving companies at the Enterprise level. Timeero’s Customer support is available via text, phone, chat, as well as email.

‍

The bottom line: Is Econz Wireless right for your field team?

‍

For field teams that need an app crews will actually use every day, Econz’s dated interface, extra clicks, overlapping geofences, and implementation fees are real trade-offs.

‍

If your team needs accurate GPS time tracking, automatic mileage reimbursement, and clear geofence visibility without a months-long onboarding process, Timeero is built to get you there faster, with real people ready to help by phone, text, chat, or email.

Econz Wireless FAQs

‍

What is the Econz Wireless app called?

‍

The Econz Wireless crew app is called Timecard GPS, and it’s listed in Apple’s App Store under the developer name ECONZ Wireless. Field supervisors can use a separate Timecard Supervisor app on Android or iOS, and managers can access the Econz web portal.

Can you try Econz Wireless for free?

‍

Econz Wireless advertises that you can try it free, and its “Try it free” link leads to a trial-request form where you contact Econz to ask for one. That page doesn’t create an account right away or say how long a trial lasts.

How much would Econz Wireless cost for a 10-person crew?

‍

Based on Econz’s published $50 monthly base fee and the $8-per-employee monthly rate listed on ADP Marketplace, a 10-person crew would have an estimated subscription cost of $130 per month. Ask Econz for a written quote confirming the applicable rate and whether implementation, onboarding, or integration fees apply.

Does Econz Wireless integrate with payroll software?

‍

Econz Wireless connects to ADP Workforce Now and Deel Local Payroll. ADP’s marketplace lists the Econz connector at $1 per employee per month for customers who already have an Econz subscription. Econz’s App Store listing says its products work with over 100 accounting and payroll packages, so confirm your payroll provider, country, and setup are supported before you sign.
